Shimau

Privacy Policy

What Shimau handles, and what it is used for.

1. Who provides this app

Shimau (“the app”) is provided by TECHMOON Inc. (“we”, “us”). This policy sets out how we handle information in connection with your use of the app.

2. What we handle, and why

The app requires no account, and we do not collect information that directly identifies you, such as your name, address or telephone number. We handle the following.

Stored on your device — everything you save (images and screenshots, links, text, notes), how it is organised (boxes, sticky notes), your journal, your search history and your settings are stored only on your device. They are never stored on our servers. Deleting the app deletes this data.

Stored in iCloud (when Pro iCloud sync is on) — turning on iCloud sync in Settings stores what you save in your own iCloud (Apple’s CloudKit private database) and syncs it across devices signed in to the same Apple Account. It is held in your iCloud, never on our servers, and we cannot access its contents. Apple’s privacy policy governs how it is handled there. Sync is off by default and can be turned off at any time in Settings.

Sent for AI processing — to add summaries and tags automatically, text recognised on-device from screenshots (OCR), together with the URLs you save and information about those pages (title, body text), is sent through our relay server to an external AI service. Images themselves never leave your device. What is sent is discarded once processing finishes; it is not retained by us or by the AI service, and it is not used to train AI models. You can turn this off entirely under “How analysis works” in Settings.

Purchase information — if you subscribe to Pro, an anonymous identifier and your App Store purchase information (receipt data) are sent to a subscription management service so that purchase and renewal status can be tracked. Payment is handled by Apple. We never receive payment details such as card numbers.

What you send us — when you write to us from “Send feedback” in Settings, your message is sent along with your app version and your device model and OS version (for example, iPhone 16 Pro / iOS 26.2). We use this to reproduce problems and reply.

Usage data — screen views, actions such as saving, searching and changing settings, your device type and OS version, and an anonymous in-app identifier. We use this to analyse and improve the app. The contents of what you save — body text, images, notes — are never included in usage data.

Diagnostic data — technical information when the app crashes or errors (stack traces showing what failed and where, device and OS information). We use this to find and fix defects.

Notifications — deadline suggestions and the weekly look-back are local notifications, handled entirely on your device. We collect no data in order to deliver them.

3. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services. We never sell or provide this data to third parties for advertising.

AI services — for summaries, tags and similar processing we use external AI services of our choosing, such as Google LLC’s Gemini API. Only the text described above is sent, and we connect via API under terms that exclude your input from model training.

iCloud — when iCloud sync is on, data is stored in Apple Inc.’s iCloud (CloudKit). It is held in your own iCloud account and we cannot access its contents.

Subscription management — we use RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) to track subscription purchase and renewal status. Payment itself is handled by Apple.

Analytics — we use PostHog (PostHog, Inc., United States) to collect and analyse usage and diagnostic data. This data is processed and stored in their United States data centre. See also PostHog’s privacy policy (https://posthog.com/privacy).

4. Transfers outside your country

Text sent for AI processing, purchase information, and usage and diagnostic data may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. When iCloud sync is on, data is also held on servers in regions determined by Apple. By using the app you are taken to agree to these transfers.

5. How long we keep data

Text sent for AI processing is discarded immediately after processing and is not retained. Usage and diagnostic data are kept only as long as needed to improve the service, then deleted or anonymised. Data on your device is erased when you delete the app. Data in iCloud is kept until you delete it from iCloud.

6. Opting out

If you would rather we did not collect usage and diagnostic data, deleting the app stops it being sent. Sending text to AI can be turned off under “How analysis works” in Settings. iCloud sync can be turned off in Settings. If you would like data already sent to be deleted, please contact us using the details below.

7. Children

The app is not designed to collect personal information from any particular age group. Children should use it under the supervision of a parent or guardian.

8. Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy as needed. We will announce significant changes on this page.

9. Contact

For questions about this policy or about how we handle personal information, please write to us from “Send feedback” in the app’s Settings.
